Joist Payments is fast and convenient, but no one likes paying transaction fees.
Turns out many clients are willing to pay the majority of that fee for the added convenience of paying online*.
Joist offers two easy ways to do this:
- Use the Markup Feature
- Add a Line Item
We've used 3% in the two examples below, which works out to cover the majority of the fee.
Use the Markup Feature in Joist
Markup allows you to invisibly build the fee into your estimate or invoice. Just add a markup of 3% to cover the majority of your processing fee.

Add a Line Item in Joist
If you want the client to see the fee on your estimate or invoice, add it as a line item.
You can name the item "credit card fee" or "convenience fee" -- whatever you think will make sense to your client.
Then just calculate what 3% of your total is and make that the cost of the item.
*Make sure to check your local laws to ensure that including any portion of a payment processing fee on an estimate or invoice is permitted in your area.
