Joist Payments: Multi-processor and flexible switching

Introducing multi-processor Joist Payments and more flexibility in how you get paid!

What this means for you

You can now set up your Joist Payments with more than one processor, and choose which one to use and when. Whether you prefer Stripe’s ACH payment option or PayPal’s Tap to Pay and broad customer familiarity, you can select the option that best fits your needs.

Setting up Joist Payments

If you don’t have Joist Payments set up yet, you will need to set it up with each payment processor.

Switching between payment processors

Step 1: Go to your Payments settings in Joist.

Step 2: Tap on the payment processor you want to switch to.

Step 3: Before confirming your processor switch, you will be asked if you want to apply the change to all your unpaid and partially paid documents.

If you want to apply the change, keep the toggle on and tap Yes to the switch.

If you don’t want to apply the switch to your unpaid/partially paid invoices, slide the toggle off and then tap Yes to apply the switch.

Step 4: For mobile devices, you can navigate out of the payments settings, and it will automatically save. For Joist web, you will need to click Save before leaving the payments settings.

Things to consider

  • Although you can set up both PayPal and Stripe in your account, you can only use one processor at a time. This is with the exception of Tap to Pay with PayPal. This is a unique feature that is still available when you use Stripe as your payment processor.

  • You can switch processors at any time, but keep in mind that any in-progress transactions will continue under the processor they were paid on. For example, if your client paid you while your PayPal was active and you switched to Stripe that same day, the payment from that client will still be processed through PayPal because the switch happened after the client paid.

  • When you choose to switch your unpaid and partially paid documents to a different processor, the transfer of these documents can take some time. You will see updates on the transfer in your activity feed.
