How do I create and manage Jobs?

Jobs in Joist Run help you keep all project details in one place. Instead of managing estimates and invoices separately, you can group them with client details, notes, and key dates in a single job, making it easier to stay organized from start to finish

Use Jobs when you want a simple way to organize work for a customer, track related estimates/invoices, and keep project information together as your workload grows.

What Jobs can do

  • Create a single record for a project

  • Link related estimates and invoices together

  • View your job list so you can quickly find active or completed work

  • Keep all project information in one place instead of switching between separate documents

  • Connect work with Scheduling by linking visits to jobs in Joist Run

A job can be created before, during, or after you create an estimate or invoice, so you can work in the order that makes the most sense for your business.

Create a visit for a job

If you're using Scheduling in Joist Run, you can connect a visit to a job, so your schedule and project details stay together.

  1. Edit an existing job or create a new one

  2. Scroll down to the Scheduling section

  3. Tap on New Visit or the + symbol

  4. Save your changes once you’re done adding the visit details

How to mark a job as completed

Step 1: Tap on Jobs

Step 2: Edit the Job you want to mark as completed

Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom of your page and toggle on Mark job as completed

Step 4: Tap Confirm

Step 5: Tap Save at the top right-side of the screen

Marking a job as completed moves it from the active tab to the Complete tab in the Jobs section of the app. Jobs will remain searchable after completion.

Jobs marked as completed can be edited to include or remove information and links to estimates, invoices and visits. These Jobs will stay as completed unless you choose to reopen it by toggling off the Mark Job As Completed option.

Delete a job if you no longer need it

Deleting a job is permanent. When you delete a job, it will be removed from your account and cannot be restored. If you want to delete a Job, follow these steps:

Step 1: Tap on Jobs

Step 2: Edit the Job you want to delete

Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom of your page to the Job Actions section and tap Delete Job

Step 4: Once you tap on Delete Job, you will have 2 options:

  • Delete the Job, along with the linked documents/visits (this will also permanently delete the linked estimates/invoices and visits from your account)

  • Delete the job but keep the documents and remove their connection to it (this will only delete the job, the linked estimates/invoices associated with this job will not be deleted and can be found in the Estimates or Invoices section of your account)

Note: If you're using an Android device, you will also have the option to keep linked visits when deleting a job.

This gives you flexibility to clean up your workspace without losing documents you still need.

Step 5: Tap on the option you want and confirm the deletion

Examples of when to use Jobs

Jobs are especially helpful if you manage multiple projects simultaneously or if a single customer has several related documents for the same piece of work.

  • A kitchen remodel with an estimate, deposit invoice, and final invoice

  • A roofing project that needs notes, dates, and multiple documents tied together

  • A job for a repeat customer where you want all project details in one place

  • Any project where you plan to schedule visits and want the schedule connected to the work

Think of a Job as the main folder for a project. Your estimates and invoices are still separate documents, but the Job keeps them organized together.
