You can quickly and easily add line items to your estimates and invoices in Joist so your client can see exactly what the job entails.
Here's how:
iOS
First create a new estimate or invoice, or edit an existing one.
Now tap on the Add Line Item button. If you've never added a line item in Joist before, this will take you straight to the line item editor.
If you have added line items to Joist before, you will first be taken to the items list, where you can easily just tap the item you want and it will be added to your estimate or invoice. Or you can tap the New Item button in the top right corner to go to the line item editor.
In the line item editor you can give your item a Name and Description, as well as set the Quantity (how many of this item there will be) and the Rate (how much one unit will cost).
You can also choose to add a tax with the Add Tax button at the bottom of the screen. If you've added a tax in Joist before, the tax will be listed here at the bottom and you can choose to turn it on or off as needed.
When you're finished, tap Done at the top right of the screen and the item will be added to your estimate or invoice. If this is a new item you've just created, it will now also be stored in your Joist account's items list for future use.
You can always make changes to the item in this document by tapping on it from the edit screen.
Note that making changes to an item at the document level will not affect the item as it appears in your Joist account's saved items list. You can make those kinds of changes by going directly to the items list in your account.

Web
First create a new estimate or invoice, or edit an existing one.
Add a new line item:
Click on the Add Line Item button and an empty line item will appear. Click Description and type in a short Description for your line item. Each line item must have a Description.
Next, enter a Rate (the cost of one unit) and Quantity (the number of units). The Rate and Quantity will be used to calculate the line item Total for you. Try adjusting the Rate and Quantity to see how the Total changes automatically.
If you need to add a tax to your line item, click Tax to open the Tax window. Next, click on the New Tax button, or select a tax from your list of saved taxes. Click DONE to return to editing your estimate or invoice.
Lastly, you can enter Notes for your line item. Notes are often used to provide a more detailed description of the line item.
When you save your estimate or invoice, any new items you've created will also be stored in your Item List for future use.
Add an item from your Item List:
Click on the Add Line Item button, then click the green Item List button. This will display your list of saved items and a search bar.
Once you've located the item you want, click on it and it will be added to your estimate or invoice. You can then edit the Description, Rate, Quantity, Tax and Notes, the same way that you would when adding a new line item.
Note that making changes to an item after adding it to your estimate or invoice will not affect the saved item in your Item List. Check out this related guide if you want to edit your Items List in the settings of the app.
