Client Profiles

Client Profiles is a new and improved way to view, manage, and interact with your client information.

Using client profiles allows you to keep essential client details and important business context connected, making it easier to manage your day-to-day work.


Here's how you can use the Client Profiles feature in Joist. Use the links to jump to instructions for:

New: The Clients tab has now moved locations for iOS and Android users. Once you open your Joist app, you can find the Clients tab after you click More (iOS) or Manage (Android) from the bottom of your screen.

iOS

To access the new Client Profile feature:

  1. Open the Joist app on your device

  2. Tap the More button at the bottom-right corner of your screen

  3. Tap Clients to view your existing clients list

  4. Tap on the client you want to view, or tap Edit in the top-right corner of the screen to make updates to the client’s profile

  5. Save your changes

Basics

Continue to use classic features like:

  • Creating estimates and invoices directly from a client profile

  • Private notes

  • Primary contact info

Plus, you can now also use updated features like:

Improved client list view

Once a client’s details are entered, you'll be able to see additional info under each client’s name. This can help you identify clients and their info at a quick glance.

Improved search

Search for your client in your clients list, not only by name, but also by phone number.

Pro

Includes everything in Basics, plus:

Customer Snapshots

A customer snapshot is a history section that allows you to see information about the last time you sent the client an invoice, the last payment you received from them, the total amount they have been invoiced, and the total unpaid amount.

Elite

Includes everything in Basics and Pro, plus:

Filters for client estimates and invoices

On the Client Profile page, scroll down and tap on the Estimates button or the Invoices button to see a list of documents for the client.

On the Estimates profile page, you can filter through approved, pending, and declined estimates for the client by tapping on each section near the top of the page.

On the Invoice profile page, you can filter through active and paid invoices for the client by tapping on each section near the top of the page.

Tags

You can now create and add tags to your client's profile to label and organize them. You can also filter your clients based on these tags.

To create and add tags:

  1. Open the client’s profile

  2. Tap Edit in the top-right corner

  3. Scroll down to the Tags section on the Edit Client page

  4. Make sure that Show Additional Information is toggled on

  5. Tap on Tags

6. Type in the name of your new tag and tap the add sign +

7. Once you’re done adding tags, tap Save in the top-right corner of your screen.

Once the tag is added, it will be saved to your list of Tags. You will be able to use these saved tags for other clients as well.

The improved clients list view also shows you the client tags when you are on the Elite plan and allows you to filter by tag. Client tags are circled in green in the clients list view.

You can tap the tag filter button next to the search bar to select the tags you want to filter by. When filtering is active, the tag filter button will be highlighted green and show you the number of tags being used to filter.

To clear the filters and return to the standard, unfiltered clients list, tap on the tag filter button, tap on "All Tags" once, then tap "All Tags" a second time to clear your selection, then tap Apply.

Customer Source

Customer Source allows you to note where you found your client, or how they found you.

For example, is your client a referral, or did they find you through advertising, an online marketplace or through social media? You can record this important context in the Customer Source notes for easy reference in the future.

To edit the Customer Source, first edit your client, then toggle on Show Additional Information, then tap on Customer Source. Enter your notes, tap Save to save the notes, then tap Save again to save the updated profile.

Preferred contact method

You can also record and save your client’s preferred method of contact with the Elite plan.

When you enable Show Additional Information for a client's profile, you will see Email, Phone, and SMS as options. Simply toggle on the contact methods your client prefers, and toggle off the ones they don't. You can refer back to this anytime you need to contact your client to make sure you're using their preferred type of communication.

Android

To access the new Client Profile feature:

  1. Open the Joist app on your device

  2. Tap the Manage button at the bottom-right corner of your screen

  3. Tap Clients to view your existing client list

  4. Tap on the client you want to view, or tap the Pencil icon in the top-right corner of the screen to make updates to the client’s profile

  5. Save your changes

  2. Tap the Pencil icon in the top-right corner

  3. Scroll down to the Tags section on the Edit Client page

  4. Make sure that Show Additional Information is toggled on

  5. Scroll down to the Tags section and tap the arrow

6. Tap the + icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

7. Enter the Tag name and tap Confirm. If you already have tags in the list, you can tap them to select or deselect them.

8. Once you're done adding tags, tap the back arrow in the top-left corner of the screen, then tap the checkmark to save your changes.

Once the tag is added, it will be saved to your list of Tags. You can also use these saved tags for other clients.

The improved clients list view also shows you the client tags when you are on the Elite plan and allows you to filter clients by tag. Client tags are circled in green in the clients list view.

You can tap the tag filter icon next to the Clients search icon to select the tags you want to filter by.

To clear the filters and return to the standard, unfiltered clients list, tap on the tag filter icon beside the Clients search icon, then tap on the tags you want to deselect, or tap the more icon in the top-right corner of your screen and then tap “Reset selection” to clear all tag selections at the same time. After completing either of these actions, tap the back arrow to return to the full, unfiltered Clients page.

Customer Source

Customer Source allows you to note where you found your client, or how they found you.

For example, is your client a referral, or did they find you through advertising, an online marketplace, or through social media? You can record this important context in the Customer Source notes for easy reference in the future.

  1. Click the Client tab in the left-side menu

  2. Click the Open button next to the client profile you want to view

  3. To edit an open client profile, click the Edit button in the top-left corner

  4. Save your changes

Filters for client estimates and invoices

When viewing a client profile, you can click on the Estimates button to see a filtered list of estimates for the client, or the Invoices button to see a filtered list of invoices.

In the list of filtered estimates for a Client, you'll see the client's name displayed in the top left to let you know you're in filtered mode. You can tab through the lists of Pending, Approved and Declined estimates for the client in this view, and interact with the estimates as normal.

To return to the client's profile, simply click the back button in your web browser.

Likewise, in the list of filtered invoices for a Client, you'll see the client's name displayed in the top left. You can tab through the Active and Paid tabs for the client from this view, and interact with the invoices as normal.

Tags

You can now create and add tags to your client's profile to label and organize them. You can also filter your clients based on these tags.

To create and add tags:

  1. Open the client’s profile

  2. Click Edit in the top-left corner of the screen

  3. Make sure that Show Additional Information is toggled on

  4. Scroll down to the Tags section

  5. Click on Add Tags

  6. Type in the name of your new tag and click Create Tag

  7. Click Done to exit the Tags page

  8. Scroll to the top of the page and click Save to save the newly created tag.

Once the tag is added, it will be saved to your list of Tags. You will be able to use these saved tags for other clients as well.

The improved clients list view also shows you the client tags when you are on the Elite plan and allows you to filter by tag. Client tags are circled in green in the clients list view.

You can click the Tags menu next to the search bar at the top of the screen to select the tags you want to filter by.

When filtering is active, the word Tags in the menu will be highlighted green and it will show you the number of tags being used to filter.

To clear the filters and return to the standard, unfiltered clients list, simply click All Tags from the menu, then dismiss the menu.

Customer Source

Customer Source allows you to note where you found your client, or how they found you.

For example, is your client a referral, or did they find you through advertising, an online marketplace or through social media? You can record this important context in the Customer Source notes for easy reference in the future.

To edit the Customer Source, first edit your client, then toggle on Show Additional Information. Enter your notes into the Customer Source field and then save your customer profile to save the notes you've added.
